Cranksgiving Bikers, Meet Curt

Cranksgiving’s good friend Adam Prosise built Curt with the help of Ichi Bike and Ichi Bike has generously donated Curt to the Cranksgiving cause.

Curt will be raffled off on Sunday. Tickets will be $10 each and will be available before the race begins and for a short time after everyone gets back. All of the money raised from the raffle will be donated to The Food Bank of Iowa.

We hope to see you on Sunday! Registration opens at noon and the race will begin at 1 p.m.

Check out Ichi Bike at 311 E. Walnut tonight at the East Village Promenade !! They’ll have awesome bike art available as well as gear you may need for Sunday!

Racing to Eliminate Hunger

Cranksgiving isn’t just about having fun. (But we’re going to have a lot of fun.) It’s about helping hungry Iowans. The Food Bank of Iowa is a great source for people who are unable to provide food for themselves and their families. Here are some fast food facts:

1 in 8 Iowans are food insecure
1 in 5 Iowa children does not have enough to eat
359,469 Iowans live at or below the poverty level
For every $1 donation, the Food Bank of Iowa can provide 5 meals

The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, not-for-profit organization committed to the mission of alleviating hunger through food distribution, partnership and education.

Donated food and grocery products are solicited, received, counted and distributed to 425 partnering agencies in 55 counties that directly serve needy individuals within their communities. Forty-two of these counties are served from the Des Moines facility.

We raised over 1,500 food and grocery items last year. Let’s try and up that to 2,000 this year!

Yes, that title was meant to be sung as it would have been in WICKED! (I hope that if you haven’t gone to see the Broadway musical while it’s here in town that you do so before it’s gone. It’s uh-mah-zing. Amazing.)

Cranksgiving 2011 is going to be popular because it’s going to be featured in Cityview on Wednesday of this week AND Juice on Thursday. Make sure to pick up your copies, tell your friends, and show up with bikes, helmets, and loaded wallets on Sunday!

Calling all VOLUNTEERS

Cranksgiving 2011 is going to be a ton of fun! However, riding bikes this time of year isn’t for everyone. If you want to participate but aren’t too keen on racing, come help with registration, checking receipts, and figuring out who crossed the finished line first.

We’ll also need help collecting the food items and loading them into Sara’s car… Let’s pray they all fit.

Cranksgiving 2011 participants over the age of 21 will now be able to enjoy a brewski either before or after the event courtesy of FryGuyImages. Steve Fry is a Des Moines based photographer and long-time friend of Rasmussen’s Bike Shop.

Just visited Ichi Bike at 311 East Walnut to see Dan about doing a bike again this year for Cranksgiving and he is in!

He says that the bike he builds for the Cranksgiving Raffle will be rad! We can’t wait to get picture updates from him as he builds it! We’ll keep you posted on what the bike will look like, but expect to pay $10 per raffle ticket for the chance to win this rat-rod style bike.

It’s gonna be SWEET!
