Description:

Did you ever buy your groceries at the local Five and Dime....It's The Illiterate Cyclist 5th Detroit Cranksgiving. Mountain bikers, roadies, bmxers, cycling families, or anyone that just wants to hop on a bike and help us gather food to help those less fortunate in the trying part of the year are welcome. This is not a race, per se, but a Global Scavenger Hunt By Bike to collect food and supplies that food banks, pantries, and homeless shelters are in dire need of to help those struggling with those basic necessities in life. And, with the current state of the World, and some communities struck worse across the nation than others, this kind of community help is what’s needed most.

When: Sunday November 21nd-10:30 AM Riders Set-Off (Please arrive by 10 AM)

Where: The Illiterate Cyclist (33423 Ford Rd, Garden City, MI 48135…Yeah, I know nobody likes where my shop's at....)

What: Bring a functional bike, warm clothes, a bike lock, some kind of portaging device (backpack, panniers, etc), and $15-25 for groceries. Lights and a Helmet are always recommended, and super fun costumes are highly encouraged, but not freezing is better (personal note).

How: Riders will be given a multi-choice list of food bank necessities, and will set-off to collect goods by bike at 5-6 food emporiums of their choosing in the Westland/Garden City/Livonia/Dearborn area. All riders should be back by 12:30 PM with their "Cranksgatherings". Scope out grocery stores, markets, bodegas, and discount food stores now, if you’re not local…but we have tons of close by options. And, our streets around here are pretty bike functional.

Benefactor:  In years prior, food and necessities have been donated to Gleaner's, HOME Food Pantry of Garden City, and Alternatives 4 Girls.  Still to be determined as we get closer to the event, depending on which organization may be best helped by what we gather, and who's willing to accept items...what the Hell 2020?

Prizes:   Prizes, yeah, you might be able to win something more than new friendships through cycling and the happiness of knowing you did something healthy to also benefit those in need.  But, you best show up with a bike, put the work in, and show you dodged the curveball I'll throw in.
