Description:

Cranksgiving is an alleycat (unsanctioned bike race) that started in Manhattan in 1999. It’s in the style of a scavenger hunt with the primary goal is to purchase and donate food with all proceeds going to Grace Community Services. A link has been provided to donate directly to them if you can’t or aren’t interested in competing.

Jersey City Cranksgiving is happening on Saturday, December 4th. Registered starts at 11am and wheels down from noon-4pm. Registration is FREE.

You will need a bicycle, large bag or wagon, lock, about $25 cash/card to pay for food, and a smart phone is recommended. If you don’t have access to a bicycle other human powered vehicles (e.g. skateboard, rollerblades, unicycle, etc) and even runners are welcome. No motors allowed.

If you’re not fast that is totally fine. This isn’t a point A to point B type of race. As mentioned it’s a scavenger hunt and you set your own route and pace. The focus is having fun, riding safe, and donating some food. You’re encouraged to ride with family, friends, bring the kids out, and/or even a hot date. What’s more attractive than someone being active and giving? However you will still be scored as individuals.

Local businesses have been generous enough to contribute a great variety of prizes for your participation. Shopping list and additional challenges won’t be revealed until the day of. Don’t forget to layer up.
