ABOUT

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels. Part bike ride, part food drive, part scavenger hunt, it has been held annually in New York City since 1999.

Bring a bike, a bag, a lock, and about $15-$20 to buy food. All of the food collected at grocery stores benefits your local charity. Every year, we help provide thousands of needy families with a wealth of food during the week of Thanksgiving

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’ve never done a ride like this before? How does it work?
It’s easy. You show up, grab a manifest, figure out the best route, and start riding when we say “GO!”. Make sure you’ve got a bag and a lock, because you’re going to need to lock up to run into grocery stores.

Can I use my city’s bike share?
I mean, we’re not going to tell you not to, but it would certainly be challenging finding docking stations at all the right spots.

How much does it cost to register?
It’s free to register, but you’ll need cash to buy food at the grocery stores. $10-$20 should suffice.

Can I register online?
No. Not here, at least. Each Cranksgiving is locally organized. For more information on the event closest to you, contact that event’s organizer.

This is such a great idea! How can I bring Cranksgiving to my city?
Cranksgiving is a simple event to throw because it requires minimal volunteer effort. Read our How-To guide for a great starting point.
